Place: Kadhai Kitchen
Location: Powai Vihar Complex, Powai, Mumbai
Mode: Home Delivery
On a weekday late afternoon, when I was tired after meetings and somehow managed to cook only for the kid, decided to order some food for a very late lunch. By the time, I could get hold of the phone to order, it was past three. So the options became limited.
My bookmarked places list had Kadhai Kitchen in it, where I might never go for Dine In. Luckily it serves food the whole day. This perfectly fit the requirement. Going through the Powai Vihar Market several times, this was noticed several times as it is not an age old place. Thought, good to have it in the list for take away / home delivery.
Checked the 25 pages of menu on Zomato. Long menu but same all Indian, and Tandoor dishes with a second of Chinese too. Some interesting stuff with Maggi and some good Combos deals.
I had no clue what would be good there. So, just thought of what I felt like having that moment. Soup came the answer. So I asked for a Manchow Soup, and they had that. Some chicken kebab maybe. Which one to prefer….Then the found an interesting deal on the menu. The Non Veg Platter, which had two options – 1) 12 pieces for Rs 250 and 2) 24 pieces for Rs 480. I love platters, so I get to taste more options and on next orders, I know what to order. The 12 piece platter suited me as only I was gonna have.
So, first I enquired, whether this is available on an odd time. Because Tandoor items usually are for evenings or lunch. They said they will get back, and finally it was available. The guy on the phone informed me that If you are checking the menu online, would like to inform you that the rates have increased now, which may not have been updated online. I told him I was checking on Zomato. Anyways when asked what’s the rate now, and he said its Rs 250. Poor guy, was unaware that it is updated online. I am sure this option of 12 pieces is chosen at times only because of the price factor, and why not.
The parcel came, rather late. Like more than one hour after placing the order. The place is 5 minutes walk. The total bill was Rs 330. No taxes and No service charges. I paid the guy Rs 350.
The worst food story of my life was that day. I opened the parcel, it was already so late and I was so damn hungry, to such level that even hunger was about to leave me. I tried the soup first. It was the typical Indianised Manchow soup, and no complaints as I like it that way. Good portion. They provide fried noodles separately. With chicken and that was the only savior.
There were only three types of chicken, whereas I expected atleast four in the total 12 pieces. I tasted one by one, and I cannot describe it as anything else but Pathetic. I had thought I cannot write negative reviews well, but thanks to this place, they contributed in making me bold enough to be straightforward. It was tasteless, kinda stale, cold and not worth consuming. Couldn’t have any single piece fully. Imagine the plight in super hunger condition. Just had the soup and packed the whole stuff back, except the pieces that I tasted. Bad day I thought.
When I called them and asked what exactly the platter consists of, they said: Lasooni Chicken, Kalimiri Chicken (Pepper Chicken) and Chicken Tikka. Well, that cannot be the case as all that he mentioned are supposed to be boneless, while I had received three pieces of drumstick preparation within the platter. Whatever it was, was worthless. The money was complete waste. Later, I did call again and complained about the bad food and that the stuff is packed back and they should check.
Initially he tried to explain that they started the tandoor for my order and made fresh, that’s what delayed it. Well, don’t we know how fresh food tastes. After a while he apologized and requested to send a new platter. It was already evening and was of no use to me. But he insisted that he can send a little later, for dinner maybe but we must try that out. Atleast that customer service was worth giving a chance. So I decided to call back for dinner.
I was too scared to order the same stuff, no trust anymore. So I called and asked them to send One Half Tandoori Chicken, Two butter Naan and one Tomato soup. But Nothing free, I would pay for everything as this is a different order.
The delivery was prompt this time. The bill was Rs 295/- and they sent a tiny pack of gulab jamun with it. I just tasted it, basically the order was for my hubby and he liked it. It is seriously not easy to hear positive feedback from him about delivered food, but this was good.
I did not have the soup, so cannot comment. Assuming that was good, as all other dishes were in this batch.
The Naans too were fresh and well buttered. I didn’t have the soup, so cannot comment.
While the Gulab Jamuns were delicious. I did call back and gave this positive feedback.
